21-8-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 8: Beethoven & Massenet   
Wednesday, the 21st of August, at 22:30, the Mahogani team invites you for the last chapter in our classical music series 2024! A late night classical concert with works by Beethoven & Massenet and other highlights. We will start the concert with the uplifting ‘Spring sonata’ by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). In this piece, you will hear a dialogue between the piano and the violin, representing cheerful sounds of spring. Some highlights of the season will follow. Finally we present the famous Meditation from the opera Thaïs, by Jules Massenet (1842-1912), a beautiful piece for violin and piano, which cannot miss in our series.

14-8-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 7: Edvard Grieg
Wednesday, the 14th of August, at 22:30, the Mahogani team invites you for a late night classical concert. This time we celebrate the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) by performing his second sonata for violin and piano in G major. When Grieg presented this piece to his teacher Niels Gade, he labelled the piece as ‘too Norwegian’. Grieg was furious and replied that he would compose another violin sonata, which he would make even more Norwegian! We will let you decide how Norwegian this sonata is exactly. As a introduction to the key of g minor, a modern piece for piano and electronics is on the program by Dutch composer Simon Burgers, inspired on the music of violin virtuoso Paganini.

7-8-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 6: Violin sonatas by Mozart & Schubert
Wednesday the 7th of August, at 20:00, the Mahogani Team welcomes you to enjoy a drink with live classical music. The first piece on the program is the beautiful violin sonata in e minor of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Mozart was one of the most famous composers of the Classical period. The influence he had on future composers is audible in the great g minor sonata of Franz Schubert (1797-1828). This piece in four movements has a classical ground structure, while introducing some more romantic melodies.

31-7-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 5: Schubert & Dvořák
This Wednesday, the 31st of July, at 20:00, the Mahogani team invites you to dive into the repertoire for the violin. To continue where we left last week, the first piece on the program will be the first sonata for violin and piano in D major by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). As a small intermezzo, the waltz opus 69 number 2 in b minor of Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) will lift us off the ground. Finally, to take care of a grand finale, the sonatina in G major by Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) brings us to the end of this festive evening.

Chapter 4: Mozart & Schubert
On Wednesday the 24th of July at 20:00, the Mahogani team presents a small concert dedicated to the two Austrian legends of classical music Mozart (1756-1791) and Schubert (1797-1828). To start with, we will listen to Mozart’s piano sonata in A major, famous most of all because of the very recognizable last movement, known as the ‘Turkish March’. Then two impromptus of Schubert will follow: the first one in c minor and the third one in G flat major for a romantic finale.

17-7-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 3: Debussy & Ravel
On Wednesday the 17th of July at 20:00, the Mahogani team welcomes Duo Nox from the Netherlands to dive into the music of the impressionist composers Claude Debussy (1862-1918) and Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). To set the atmosphere, we start off with the famous Petite Suite of Debussy for piano four hands. Afterwards the concert continues with works by Ravel for piano solo. Finally, Ravel’s suite My mother the Goose, inspired by the famous fairytales, will take care for a festive conclusion of the concert.
Duo Nox is a piano duo, that has existed since 2017 and has as a artistic goal to provide thematized concerts. Pianists Maarten Boogaard and Duco Burgers got to know each other during their studies in the Utrecht Conservatory and play regularly together.

10-7-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 2: Nadia & Lili Boulanger
Next Wednesday the 10th of July at 20:00, the Mahogani Team welcomes you to our second classical music concert of 2024! This time, the concert will be dedicated to the special music and lives of the two Boulanger sisters, Nadia & Lili. Pianist Duco Burgers recorded all the works for piano solo by these two special and for a long time almost forgotten composers for his first cd. On Wednesday, he will play a selection of these intriguing works and tell you something about the background of the pieces.

3-7-2024 Classical Wednesdays 2024
Chapter 1: Bach, Corelli, Scarlatti, Vivaldi
Coming Wednesday at 20:00 Mahogani invites you to our first classical music concert for this season!
We will start the concert with the first French suite for piano of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), a beautiful set of dances. Then two violin sonatas will follow, one of Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713) and one of Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Finally, to close the concert festively, we will listen to Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) in his concerto for violin and piano in G major.
